Payment Methods
Choosing the right payment provider and solution is crucial for subscription success for several reasons:
- Customer Experience: A seamless and user-friendly payment process contributes to a positive customer experience and conversion rates. The right provider ensures that customers can easily subscribe, make payments, and manage their accounts, leading to increased satisfaction and retention.
- Churn Mitigation: The choice of payment provider and solution can impact churn rates, a critical metric for subscription-based businesses. Certain payment options may be more appealing to customers, reducing the likelihood of involuntary churn due to payment issues. For example, offering automatic payment methods or integrating with digital wallets can minimize the chances of failed transactions and subsequent cancellations, thus contributing to lower churn rates.
- Recurring Payments: For subscription-based models, having a payment provider that excels in handling recurring payments is essential. This ensures a steady and predictable revenue stream for the business.
- Security and Trust: Security is paramount in online transactions. A reliable payment provider offers robust security measures, assuring customers that their sensitive information is safe. This builds trust, which is vital for encouraging subscriptions and retaining customers.
- Subscription Management: An effective payment solution includes features for subscription management. This involves an easy purchase flow and cancellation of subscriptions. A provider that streamlines these processes reduces friction for both customers and the business.
- Analytics and Reporting: Access to analytics and reporting tools is vital for understanding customer behavior, tracking payment trends, and optimizing subscription strategies.
- Scalability: As the business grows, the payment solution should scale seamlessly to handle increased transaction volumes. This scalability ensures that the payment system remains efficient and reliable even during periods of rapid expansion.
In summary, the choice of a payment provider and solution significantly influences the success of subscription-based businesses. It impacts customer satisfaction, conversion rates, security, churn, and the ability to manage and analyze subscriptions effectively. Therefore, investing time and resources in selecting the right payment partner is a strategic decision that can have long-term implications for the business.
Payment providers & options
Good to know, one payment provider is included in your Payway agreement.
Adyen offers extensive support for various payment providers, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Google Pay, Apple Pay, PayPal, Swish, MobilePay, Klarna, and more. It enables online payments across all devices, globally, providing a comprehensive, all-in-one online payment solution tailored to your business.
It’s essential to note that if you choose to integrate Klarna through Adyen, obtaining customer data in return may not be possible. Therefore, we recommend setting up your agreement directly with Klarna, specifically with Klarna Payments.

Important features when using credit cards via Adyen.
- Payment profiles: can significantly boost your conversions and sales. This feature allows your existing and returning customers to conveniently reuse their credit card details from previous purchases.
NOTE! This is only supported on recurring packages and campaigns.
- Authentication Engine: Automatically determines whether a bank needs to authenticate a shopper and if so, how to do it. That means if a shopper needs to go through a 3DS2 flow or if the purchase can be done without. (3DS2 means some kind of identification, either through for example Bank ID in Sweden or biometric with the device). Enabled by default.
- Intelligent Payment Routing: Select the route with the best chance of authorization. A transaction can have multiple routs on which it can be processed. Adyen chooses the best route and if it fails Adyen can automatically choose the next route. Enabled by default.
- Smart Payment Messaging: Adapts the format of payment messages to meet specific issuer preferences. All issuers (banks that give out cards) have different rules, Adyen automatically adapts the message to fit that particular issuer. Enabled by default.
- Account Updater: This lets you access up-to-date card details in real-time. Sometimes only the date on a card changes and the card can be updated automatically.
- Network Token Optimization: Exchanges card numbers for tokens to increase card approval rates. This means even when a card is outdated it does not matter because the same token will be used on the new card and we can continue to process the payment.
